*****************************************

The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, met with a delegation led by the Vice Governor of Hunan Province, Mr Chen Xiangqun, today (March 29) to exchange views on co-operation between Hong Kong and Hunan in areas such as trade and business.

Mr Tam said, "2016 marks the beginning of the National 13th Five-Year Plan (the 13-5 Plan). In the 13-5 Plan, the chapter dedicated to Hong Kong emphasises deepening co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong, giving full play to Hong Kong's unique advantages, and enhancing Hong Kong's role and functions in the country's economic development and opening up to other countries. It also expresses support for Hong Kong in participating in the country's two-way opening up and in the Belt and Road Initiative. Enterprises from the two places will continue to leverage on their own advantages and collaborate to 'go global'."

Mr Tam added that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government would set up a liaison unit in Hunan Province under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan this year to further strengthen the HKSAR's ties with Hunan Province and its municipalities, enhance government-to-government co-operation, promote exchange and co-operation between the two places, and provide support for Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the area.

"The establishment of the Liaison Unit in Hunan will bring co-operation between the two places to a new level. Looking ahead, we will continue to strengthen exchanges and co-operation with Hunan on all fronts. With our complementarity, Hong Kong and Hunan will join hands to grasp the development opportunities brought by the country's development," he said.
