********************************************************

The Hong Kong Flower Show 2016 will be held at Victoria Park from 9am to 9pm daily from tomorrow (March 11) until March 20. This year's flower show features "Blossoms in Vivid Art 2016" as the main theme and Antirrhinum majus, commonly known as Snapdragon, as the theme flower.

More than 350 000 flowers, including 60 000 pots of Antirrhinum majus, will transform Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland throughout the show period.

Over 200 organisations from 17 countries, namely Australia, China, Estonia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom will showcase exotic flowers, landscapes and floral art displays.

As one of the events in the second batch of 10 Highlight Events under the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign, the flower show will include a display featuring a wooden set of photo frames complemented with floral decorations to provide photo-taking opportunities for members of the public.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present a spectacular exhibit entitled "Beautiful Hong Kong in a Fusion of Flowers and Art", where colourful theme flowers will be arrayed to show the diversity and dynamism of Hong Kong. A "tree of life" at the centre symbolises a perpetual cycle of blooming and fruition, representing the creativity of Hong Kong people making new inroads into art and culture.

In addition, a beautiful garden inspired by the works of the famous 19th century Impressionist Claude Monet and his beautiful garden in France will be presented. This will also serve as a prelude to the upcoming exhibition entitled "Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place" exhibition in May.

There will also be an impressive tulip display with around 14 000 flowers in a variety of colours, while a mosaiculture display, "Nature as Art", will showcase the beauty of nature and the animal kingdom.

An exhibition showcasing how women's cheongsams and flowers complement each other will also be featured in the showground.

Other main attractions include a fun display corner featuring common species of herbs, a Brand Hong Kong floral wall made up of colourful plants, another floral wall themed as "Road to Rio, Support Hong Kong Athletes", and more.

A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will be held for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages including music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, green activities workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.

Admission tickets for the flower show are on sale from now until March 20 at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices. Tickets will also be sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus devices can be used to pay for admission.
