The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO), promoted Hong Kong films in the UK by sponsoring the "CRIME: Hong Kong Style" film season organised by HOME, Manchester from February to April.

This specially programmed season of crime films from Hong Kong features a variety of different styles of movie, from thrillers to entertainingly comic capers.  The programme offers a combination of classic Hong Kong films such as "Infernal Affairs" and "Police Story", as well as more recent releases such as "Overheard" series, "That Demon Within" and "Wild City".

The season also featured the UK premiere of the directorial debut of Hong Kong director Felix Chong's "Once a Gangster" on March 1, followed by a question-and-answer session with the director.

Speaking at the film event, Director-General of the London ETO, Ms Priscilla To, said: "Over the years, Hong Kong has produced a remarkable array of cinematic talent, including directors, actors, cinematographers and producers, who have always sought to push the boundaries of filmmaking from behind and in front of the camera."

"The Hong Kong Government is committed to promoting local filmmaking and encouraging young people to join the industry. Just last week, our Financial Secretary announced in this year's Budget that HK$20 million will be used to help film-makers promote Cantonese movies to the Mainland," she continued.

Films from "CRIME: Hong Kong Style" will also be seen in screenings all around the UK as the season goes on tour. Films will be shown in Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falmouth, Fleet, Glasgow, Inverness, Lancaster, Leicester, London, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and Shrewsbury.
