As part of its Lingnan Music Series, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the "The Voice of Guangdong Saloon Music" in April.
The concerts will feature three generations of local veteran musicians and bring saloon music, which was popular in Hong Kong at the beginning of the last century, back to the theatre.
Singers Chow Chung-nga and Fung Chui-yu will perform the vocal pieces "Beautiful Water Lily on a Silver Lake", "The Toll of the Temple Bell" and Siu Ming-sing's iconic "Enchanting Dreams", as well as "Tender Feelings Attached to My Love", the signature song of Sin Kim-lai. Also performing at the concerts will be Szeto Siu (xylophone), Ho Kang-ming (Cantonese docent), To Wing (violin), Thomson Chan (drums), Chan Pik-sum (huqin), Wan Kai-ho (bass guitar), Rico Kan (saxophone), Chiu Hing-wan (guitar), Kwok Ka-ying (yangqin), Ricky Yeung (dizi), Cass Lam (sanxian), Wan Luen-wah (xiao), Chan Chi-chun (xiao) (April 8 only), Chan Kwok-fai (guzheng) (April 9 only) and Yu Wing-ka (pipa).
The concerts will also feature ensemble works including "In Celebration of Good Times", "Enigma", "Heaven on Earth", "The Beauty Yonder", "Butterflies Among the Flowers", "Young Lovers", "Blooming Flowers and Full Moon", "Song of the Red Bean", "Stepping High", "Playing the Lute by the Plantain and the Rockery", "The Flowing Water and the Drifting Clouds" and more.
"The Voice of Guangdong Saloon Music" concerts will be held at 4.30pm on April 8 (Friday) and 8pm on April 9 (Saturday) at the Theatre of the Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
