LegCo Panel on Administration of Justice and Legal Services visits the Judiciary (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     At the invitation of the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Administration of Justice and Legal Services today (January 18) visited the Court of Final Appeal Building and met with members of the Judiciary.

     During the visit, LegCo Members exchanged views with Mr Justice Ma and the Chief Judge of the High Court, Mr Justice Andrew Cheung, on issues of wide public concern, including mechanism for handling complaints against judicial conduct; manpower and other support, including accommodation, for the Judiciary; reviews of the retirement ages and the terms and conditions of service of judges and judicial officers; and judicial independence.

     In addition, led by Mr Justice Ma, LegCo Members toured the Court of Final Appeal Building to learn about the facilities of the Building.  The Court of Final Appeal commenced operations in the premises at 8 Jackson Road, Central, last September.

     Members participated in this visit were Panel members Mr Martin Liao (Chairman), Mr Dennis Kwok (Deputy Chairman), Ms Emily Lau, Mr Tam Yiu-chung, Mr Alan Leong, Mr Ma Fung-kwok, Mr Tang Ka-piu and Dr Chiang Lai-wan.
