Hong Kong Police College Open Day (with photos)
***********************************************

About 7,000 visitors attended the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) Open Day to mark its 10th anniversary today (January 10).  The event is also one of the highlighted programmes of the "Appreciate Hong Kong Campaign".

Director of the HKPC, Mr Paul Lau, said that this is the first Open Day since the Police College was established in 2006, ¡§In addition to celebrate the College's anniversary, we hoped to engage the community, enhance public understanding of Police work and promote the Force's volunteer work and healthy lifestyle to the community."

Over 1,300 members of the public from different social welfare organisations including the elderly, mentally incapacitated and disabled were invited to attend the dress rehearsal of the Force's performance held on Saturday (January 9), he added.

The Open Day offered a rich diversity of fringe activities including performance and demonstrations staged by the Special Duties Unit (popularly known as the Flying Tiger Squad), Police Escort Group, footdrill, Police Dog Unit and Police Band.

There were display of Police special vehicles and some fifty exhibition and game booths with different themes mounted by various Police units, arts and sports clubs. Other major attractions included laser gun shooting, abseiling games and wall climbing etc.

A display booth was set up to showcase the history and change of HKPC for visitors to better understand Police training and work.

The College was established in January 2006.  It was restructured from the Police Training Wing to strive for excellence in police training. In the past ten years, the College has kept upgrading the training programmes to cater for the uprising needs of police work.

In June 2014, the Probationary Inspector and Recruit Police Constable Professional Diploma Programmes were accreditated by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) and recognised under the Quality Framework (QF) at QF Level 5 (at the same level of a Bachelor's degree of the academic sector) and Level 4 (at the same level of an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma) respectively.  In 2016, the "Standard Criminal Investigation Course" has also successfully attained accreditation from HKCAAVQ.

To mark the 10th Anniversary of the Police College, a series of activities has been organised since late 2015.  Apart from the Open Day, the "Police Concert for Community 2016" jointly organised with the Community Chest will be held in April 2016 to raise fund for organisations serving children with special educational needs.
