New Blood Donor Centre commences service (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) spokesperson announced today (January 8) that the West Kowloon Donor Centre at 6/F, Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters, 19 Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon will commence service next Monday (January 11).

     The new West Kowloon Donor Centre is the largest donor centre providing apheresis donation facilities in Hong Kong, while also offering whole blood donation services. For apheresis donation please call the centre on 2507 7733 for an appointment in advance.

     The service hours of the new centre are as follows:
     Every Monday to Saturday: 9.30am-6pm
     Sunday: Closed  

     Anyone who is aged from 16 to 60 (donation is possible up to the age of 70 if predetermined conditions are met), weighs over 41 kilograms and is in good health is eligible to give blood. Male and female adult donors aged 18 or above can donate every 75 days and every 105 days respectively. Youths aged from 16 to 17 can donate every 150 days.
