OFCA urges members of the public to stay alert to a suspected fraudulent short message
****************************************************

The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) today (December 23) urged members of the public to stay alert to a suspected fraudulent short message purporting to be sent by "Broadcast Complaint".

A spokesman for OFCA said, "OFCA received an enquiry from a member of the public concerning a short message allegedly sent by 'Broadcast Complaint' from telephone number 2154 1908. The short message asked the recipient to dial a short code or a mobile phone number if he/she would like to listen to a voice mail message. Once connected, there was a recording message requesting the recipient to key in his/her mobile phone number.

"We wish to clarify that OFCA has never sent and would not send any such short message in relation to any broadcast complaint matters, and that 2154 1908 is not OFCA's telephone number.  Members of the public are reminded to stay alert and not to follow the instructions in the aforementioned short message to key in any short codes or telephone numbers or leave their telephone numbers. If they have any doubts, they should report the matter to the Police."
