     The Government announced today (December 17) that Ms Doris Cheung Mei-chu, Deputy Secretary for Labour and Welfare (Welfare), will take up the post of Land Registrar on January 4, 2016.

     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, said, "Ms Cheung is a seasoned Administrative Officer with rich experience in public administration as well as proven leadership and management skills. I have every confidence that she will serve the community with professionalism in her new capacity and rise to the challenges ahead."

     Brief biographical notes on Ms Cheung are set out below:

     Aged 54, Ms Cheung entered the Government in July 1983. She served in the Chinese Language Officer and Executive Officer grades before joining the Administrative Service in June 1985, rising to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2012.

     The career of Ms Cheung has spanned a wide range of policy bureaux and departments including the former Administrative Services and Information Branch, the former Transport Branch, the former Education and Manpower Branch, the former Industry Department, the former Civil Service Branch, the former Home Affairs Branch, the former Trade Department, the former New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office, the former Transport Bureau and the former Environment, Transport and Works Bureau. She was Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco from March 2005 to July 2009 and Deputy Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport) from October 2009 to September 2011, and has been serving as Deputy Secretary for Labour and Welfare (Welfare) since October 2011.
