************************************************************

"Early Cinematic Treasures Rediscovered 2", organised by the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be presented from January 9 to March 27 next year. To complement the film screenings, several free seminars will be held. As tickets for one of the reference films, "Mirror of Revenge" (1966), have been sold out, an additional screening has been scheduled for January 16 at 2.30pm at the HKFA Cinema.

The seminars will be held in Cantonese with speakers Winnie Fu, May Ng, Dr Mary Wong, Law Kar, Dr Yau Ching and Wong Ain-ling. Details are as follows:

January 9     "When Village Girls Arrive in
              Big Cities"

January 10    "Early Horror Films of Hong Kong:
              Toxic Contents, Entertainment and
              Metaphors"

January 23    "Prequel to the 'North-South Conflict'"

February 27   "Post-war Film Noir Attempts"

March 20      "Thin Line Between Picking or
              Not Picking Up Wild Flowers"

March 26      "The Fishermen Story, from Shanghai to
              Hong Kong"

Ling Wan's "Mirror of Revenge" features Cantonese opera masters Lam Kar-sing, Ng Kwan-lai, Leung Sing-po and Lan Chi Pak. The film delivers a mix of various genres in Cantonese cinema, incorporating the sets of a period horror film, the fight sequences of a wuxia film and the terrifying sound effects of a modern film. The intricate plot under shrewd direction and the beautiful tunes performed by the singing talents make the film all the more enjoyable. "Mirror of Revenge" is in Cantonese without subtitles.

Tickets for the additional screening priced at $40 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999. For programme enquiries, please call 2739 2139 or 2734 2900 or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/fp/en_US/web/fpo/programmes/2016ect/film.html.
