2016 civic education desktop calendar available free from tomorrow (with photos)
**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

The 2016 desktop calendar produced by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) to promote the core civic values "Respect and inclusiveness", "Responsibility" and "Love" will be available free for collection at various locations from tomorrow (December 4).

The CPCE has adopted "Cherish Yourself and Your Family, Love Hong Kong and Your Country" as the theme of the 2016 calendar, which features different topics each month to encourage members of the public to respect each other and achieve greater social inclusiveness and cohesion, as well as to be a good citizen.

The calendar has been designed by local illustrator Helen Tam. Her creation of the Pineapple Bun Lady, the main character of the "Cafe de Bollo" series, was inspired by the well-known local pastry snack. The cheerful Pineapple Bun Lady never gives up in the face of difficulties. Ms Tam said she hopes that the Pineapple Bun Lady and other characters can spread positive energy and foster positive civic values.

She added that she particularly likes the design for the month of April, in which people in different places in the world are represented by the Earth. She believes that treating others with sincerity and generosity can help bring people of the world closer. The picture for December reminds us that, as well as giving presents at Christmas, people can also show their love and care for family members simply by giving them a hug.

The calendar is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Service Centres, public libraries, city halls and town halls, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Civic Education Resource Centre on 7/F, Youth Square, 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan.

An electronic version of the calendar will also be available on the CPCE website (www.cpce.gov.hk/calendar2016) for downloading from tomorrow.
