The following is issued on behalf of the Family Council:

The Family Council, the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB), the Commission on Youth, the Elderly Commission, the Women's Commission and Radio Television Hong Kong jointly held the "Love Your Family More" thanksgiving celebration this evening (November 27) to promote family core values.

The Chairman of the Family Council, Professor Daniel Shek; the Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Laurie Lo; and other guests spent a warm and pleasant evening with about 600 people at the celebration.

Professor Shek encouraged Hong Kong families to express more strongly their love and gratitude to their elderly family members who have been selflessly dedicated to the family. He also said that every family member should seek to achieve a loving and harmonious family, and pointed out that happy and healthy families are built on positive family relationships.

The thanksgiving celebration was one of the events of the "Love Your Family More" Campaign. This territory-wide campaign was jointly launched by the Family Council, the HAB, the Commission on Youth, the Elderly Commission, the Women's Commission and Radio Television Hong Kong with an aim of advocating family core values including "Love and Care", "Respect and Responsibility" and "Communication and Harmony".

Apart from holding the celebration, the Council and the HAB, together with various co-organisers, have organised a series of promotional activities such as radio programmes, a drama writing competition, parenting group activities and a variety show. Through these diversified activities, the Council hopes to enhance communication and promote harmony and care in families, so that they will together contribute to building a happy family.
