HKETCO Director exchanges views with Hong Kong students studying in southern Taiwan (with photos)
********************************************************

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO), Mr Rex Chang, visited Kaohsiung today (November 27) and met with Hong Kong students studying in various universities in southern Taiwan.

During the meeting, Mr Chang introduced the work of the HKETCO to more than 60 Hong Kong students studying in Kaohsiung, Tainan, Chiayi and Pingtung, in particular outlining the support rendered to Hong Kong students. He also heard about the learning and daily lives of the students during their time in Taiwan.

Mr Chang said that since its establishment in Taipei almost four years ago, the HKETCO has been not only promoting economic, trade and cultural exchanges and co-operation between Hong Kong and Taiwan, but also maintaining contact with Hong Kong students studying in Taiwan through university visits, meetings with Hong Kong student associations, career talks and more. The HKETCO offers students necessary advice and assistance, and provides them with relevant and useful information.

Mr Chang expressed concern over several traffic accidents involving Hong Kong students in Taiwan last month. He took the opportunity to remind the students to pay attention to road safety. He said that many students studying in southern Taiwan drive themselves. However, there are significant differences between Hong Kong and Taiwan in respect of road design, traffic conditions, driving codes and culture. Students should therefore be aware of such differences. For their own safety, students, no matter as motorists or pedestrians, should also be extra cautious during inclement weather, as well as when passing through unfamiliar roads and traffic black spots.

The HKETCO will continue to communicate with Hong Kong students in Taiwan, paying visits to different universities and organising regional student gatherings with a view to understanding their needs and providing them with necessary assistance.
