The Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Members) today (November 26) visited the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) in Sha Tin to keep abreast of the latest developments at the HKSI and the training of athletes there.
The ExCo Members visited the HKSI Main Building, the Sports Complex, the Jockey Club Sports Building and the Swimming Complex, in which various training facilities are located including the Wushu Hall, Tenpin Bowling Centre, Squash Courts, Table Tennis Hall and the Fitness Training Centre. The members were briefed by the Chairman of the HKSI, Mr Carlson Tong, and the Chief Executive of the HKSI, Dr Trisha Leahy on the HKSI's strategy in nurturing and developing elite athletes (including athletes with disabilities), as well as the various types of support for elite training such as sports science, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, athlete affairs and education support.
During the visit, coaches and athletes spoke with the ExCo Members about their training in various sports and experience in competitions. The ExCo Members inspected the latest equipment and watched some sports demonstrations. They also took the opportunity to visit the Athlete Hostel and chat with some of the athletes.
The ExCo Members noted that the HKSI is equipped with advanced and diverse facilities which provide systematic training and all-round support for elite athletes. The Members were glad to learn that the HKSI team has trained numerous elite Hong Kong athletes who have made remarkable achievements in international competitions.
Non-official Members joining the visit today included the Convenor, Mr Lam Woon-kwong, as well as Mr Cheng Yiu-tong, Mr Andrew Liao, Mr Cheung Chi-kong and Mr Bernard Chan.
