Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, on the Director of Audit's report on reduction and recycling of food waste after attending the Legislative Council meeting today (November 18):

Reporter: (On the Director of Audit's report on reduction and recycling of food waste.)

Secretary for the Environment: In general, we have a positive attitude towards the (Director of) Audit report. We will follow up the recommendations by the audit authority. On the recycling accounting methodology, in fact, in the past we have already reviewed the process and made improvements. Secondly, about food waste, we within this term of the Government highly recognise the importance of this issue. That's why we issued the first-ever food waste plan to address this issue holistically. We have a number of measures to address this issue, including the recycling facility on food waste. The first one will be completed in 2017. We are working with the trade so that it could have a reasonable supply of food waste to well use the facility. We also advocate reduction at source. That's why we have the Food Wise Campaign, advocating government departments, the trade and even the public to support reduction at source.
