UN to consider HKSAR report under Convention against Torture
************************************************************

A seven-member team from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) forming part of the China delegation will attend the hearing of the United Nations (UN) Committee against Torture under the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment on November 17 and 18 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The team, led by the Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law, will explain to the Committee the contents of the HKSAR's third periodic report under the Convention and answer the Committee's questions on the implementation of the Convention in Hong Kong.

The HKSAR's third periodic report under the Convention was submitted to the UN in June 2013 as part of China's sixth periodic report. It details the progress on the implementation of the Convention in the HKSAR since 2008 when the Committee considered the second periodic report and addresses issues set out in the Committee's concluding observations on the second report.

The HKSAR's third periodic report under the Convention and our response to the list of issues adopted by the Committee in relation to that report in June 2015 are available on the website of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau at www.cmab.gov.hk.¡@

In addition to Security Bureau officials, the team also comprises representatives from the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the Department of Justice, and the Police.
