"Discover the Basic Law" exhibition now at PMQ in Central (with photos)
**********************************************************

The "Discover the Basic Law" multimedia interactive art exhibition opened at the Marketplace on the ground floor of PMQ in Central today (October 30). It will remain open to the public until November 5.

Organised by the Information Services Department in partnership with the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the exhibition aims to promote a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the Basic Law. It is one of a series of roving exhibitions to mark the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.

The artworks on display were created by 18 HKDI students who used the Basic Law as a source of artistic inspiration. The exhibition showcases a total of 25 artworks including illustrations, installations, typographic designs, sculptures and motion graphics.

The exhibition includes two large video walls consisting of 30 video screens. With the use of special hand-held viewing glasses, visitors can "discover" hidden content, such as motion graphics, within some of the "blank" video screens.

The largest artwork is a sculpture entitled "Book of Life". With Basic Law inscriptions on two open pages, the book forms the foundation of two trees with branches showing the words "Rights" and "Freedoms". This shows that under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's rights and freedoms are protected and can be further developed.

Another eye-catching artwork resembles a giant padlock. Entitled "Lock", the sculpture is an artistic vision of the Central Government Offices building standing at the top of the lock, symbolising the Government's obligation to protect property rights under the Basic Law.

Members of the public can also see the artworks on the Discover the Basic Law website at www.discoverthebasiclaw.gov.hk or via the mobile app "Discover the Basic Law".

The exhibition is being held at the Marketplace on the ground floor of PMQ at 35 Aberdeen Street, Central. PMQ is situated on the site of the former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters, a Grade 3 Historic Building in Hong Kong. The exhibition opening hours are from 11am to 8pm. Admission is free and souvenirs will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis.

The last exhibition will be held at the HKDI at 3 King Ling Road, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories, from December 15 to 28.

The latest information is available from the Discover the Basic Law dedicated website.
