"Hong Kong Episodes" concert to explore city's charm through tapestry of music and visuals (with photos)
************************************************************

Two cutting-edge Hong Kong musicians, guitarist Teriver Cheung and composer Fung Lam, will combine for the first time in an intriguing jazz-classical crossover concert billed as a cinematic musical journey.

In the concert "Hong Kong Episodes" the two musicians will seek to explore Hong Kong's unique charms. With new scores written by them collaboratively and video images by architect Anthony Lai, the concert uses evocative imagery to draw up different "chapters" of this unique metropolis in the course of a virtual day ¡V its colourful cosmopolitan cityscape, fast-paced lifestyle, its quiet areas for spiritual retreat and its localised heritage and culture.

Cheung has established himself as a stand-out guitarist on the international jazz scene, while Lam is the youngest Chinese composer commissioned by the British Broadcasting Corporation. They aim to blend the more structural classical approach with free-style jazz to inspire a horizon-widening mood among the audience. Jazz pianist Jean-Michel Pilc, described by the Washington Post as a "musical genius", and his New York-based jazz trio, along with saxophone sensation Timothy Sun, and top chamber players from the Hong Kong Contemporary Music Group, will also take part in the concert.

"Hong Kong Episodes" is one of the programmes at the World Cultures Festival - A Decade of Exquisite Arts. It will be held at 8pm on October 23 and 24 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Studio Theatre.

Tickets priced at $140 and $220 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Teriver Cheung, Fung Lam and Jean-Michel Pilc will share with participants the connections and disparities between free-style jazz and classical music, as well as between excitement and improvisation. Admission is free. Limited seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
