SEN to attend APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting in Cebu

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, will depart for Cebu, the Philippines, tomorrow afternoon (October 12) to attend the 12th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM).

     On Tuesday (October 13), Mr Wong will attend the APEC EMM, which has "Towards an Energy Resilient APEC Community" as its main theme, and will join discussions with ministers responsible for energy from the other 20 members of APEC on issues including energy security, energy trade and investment, energy efficiency and sustainable community, as well as promotion of the use of cleaner sources of energy.

     In addition, Mr Wong will join the plenary session on "The Global Challenge of Energy Resiliency", and will speak on the climate-proofing energy infrastructure in Hong Kong.

     In the afternoon, Mr Wong will meet with the Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration, Mr Zhang Yuqing, to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

     In the evening, Mr Wong will attend a welcome reception hosted by APEC for delegates to the EMM.

     Other officials attending the APEC EMM will include the Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Mr Vincent Liu, and the Assistant Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Harry Lai.

     Mr Wong will conclude his visit and depart for Hong Kong on Wednesday morning (October 14).
