FS attends IMF and WB Annual Meetings in Lima (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, attended the Plenary Session of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WB) in Lima, Peru, as a member of the Chinese delegation this morning (October 9, Lima time).

     The Annual Meetings bring together central bankers, finance ministers, private bankers as well as other stakeholders worldwide to discuss global economic development and other issues of mutual concern.

     Mr Tsang said, "Participation in the Annual Meetings enables Hong Kong to gain a deeper understanding of the state of the global economy and change in the external environment. This will be beneficial to the sustained development of Hong Kong."

     Later, Mr Tsang attended a lunch with the Peruvian members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council.

     Mr Tsang took the opportunity to meet other attendees of the IMF and WB Annual Meetings, to exchange views on global economic outlook. Mr Tsang first met with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackRock, Mr Laurence Fink. BlackRock is one of the world's largest asset management companies. This was followed by separate meetings with IMF officials, including the Deputy Managing Director, Mr Zhu Min, the Deputy Director of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department, Mr He Dong; the Director of the Asia and Pacific Department, Mr Changyong Rhee.

     Mr Tsang will continue his meetings with his counterparts in Lima tomorrow (October 10, Lima time), including a meeting with the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Dr Janet Yellen.
