A delegation from Macau's Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon (October 8) and visited local public healthcare facilities to better understand the services and operation of the city's public hospitals.

The delegation, led by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr Tam Chon Weng, first proceeded to Ruttonjee Hospital, where they were greeted by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man. The delegation then visited an acute geriatric ward at the hospital. The facilities and operation arrangements of the ward are designed according to the need and ability of elderly patients, with an aim of providing a safe and comfortable environment to facilitate quality treatment and rehabilitation.

"The health and medical authorities of Hong Kong and Macau are close partners, and frequently exchange views and share experiences on relevant issues. The visit today enables the delegation members to grasp the latest situation of public healthcare services in Hong Kong," Dr Ko said.

The delegation continued its visit with a tour of the Hospital Authority's Patient Support Call Centre in the Community Ambulatory Care Centre of Tang Shiu Kin Hospital. The Call Centre aims to provide better support to elderly patients with a high risk of hospital re-admissions as well as patients with chronic diseases.

Concluding the visit, the delegation called at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital to see its emergency facilities.
