The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited the Sino-HK Enterprises Job Expo in Southorn Stadium, Wan Chai, today (October 8) to learn more about the recruitment situation and the response of job seekers at the job fair.

The job fair was jointly organised by the Labour Department and The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association, with the participation of 40 well-known enterprises from the Mainland and Hong Kong. The job fair offers over 3 000 vacancies covering a wide variety of positions such as manager, human resources officer, management trainee, civil engineer and programme analyst. Most of the vacancies require a secondary education level or above, or less than two years' relevant experience. Many are also suitable for young job seekers with post-secondary education.

Accompanied by The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association's Vice Chairman and Director, Mr Zhang Xialing, and Deputy Director, Mr Zhu Hua, Mr Cheung was briefed on the latest recruitment situation by representatives of various enterprises from the Mainland and Hong Kong. He also took the opportunity to chat with some job seekers to gauge their views on the job fair and their willingness to work on the Mainland.

Mr Cheung said, "The rapid development of the Mainland in recent years has brought about a lot of job opportunities. This job fair does provide a good opportunity for job seekers to learn more on the employment and development opportunities on the Mainland. Being biliterate and trilingual and with a good international perspective, if our young people can grasp the opportunities arising from the Mainlandˇ¦s economic development and spare no effort to learn from work, I am confident that they can build a solid foundation for their future career."

The two-day job fair started yesterday and was attended by over 1 670 job seekers.
