Andrew Ling to explore music by playing four roles in concerts with Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra

     The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will perform three concerts in November entitled "Andrew Ling's Music Jukebox", with Andrew Ling as guest conductor, violin soloist, viola soloist and host. Ling will explore the incredible possibilities of orchestral music during the concerts.

     The concerts, with Dr Yip Wai-hong as music director and featuring an array of familiar works, will be fun-filled occasions for young music lovers and their families. The programme includes Rossini's "Overture to 'William Tell'", Offenbach's "Can Can from 'Orpheus in the Underworld'", Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy, 2nd Movement", Schubert's "Ave Maria", Mascagni's "Intermezzo from 'Cavalleria Rusticana'" and Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1".

     A native of Hong Kong, Andrew Ling is currently the principal violist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and an adjunct faculty member of the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He has also collaborated with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the China Film Philharmonic Orchestra, and has given recitals in Hong Kong, North America and Europe. On the conducting front, Ling has conducted the Seinäjoki City Orchestra in Finland. He is also the Guest Conductor for the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra.

     Music director Dr Yip Wai-hong is an eminent music educator. He founded the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Children's Choir, Yip's Children's Choir and the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra with an aim of nurturing young talent in Hong Kong.

     The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra's aim is to promote music among the general public, especially the younger generation in Hong Kong. To achieve its goal, the orchestra has performed more than 300 times in 30 years or so. A number of internationally renowned conductors and soloists have performed with it.

     The "Andrew Ling's Music Jukebox" concerts by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 8pm on November 6 (Friday) at the Theatre of Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, at 8pm on November 7 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tai Po Civic Centre and at 3pm on November 8 (Sunday) at the Theatre of Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $100 to $180 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
