The delegation of the Legislative Council Panel on Education continued its duty visit to study vocational education and training (VET) in Switzerland yesterday (September 24).
Members of the delegation first paid a visit to the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation and met with the Head of the Cooperation in Education Division, Dr Therese Steffen. Dr Steffen gave the delegation an overview of the Swiss VET system and legislation on VET in Switzerland. Afterwards, the delegation received a briefing by the Director General of the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET), Dr Cornelia Oertle. Members were briefed on the role of SFIVET within the VET system.
The delegation then visited the Swiss Parliament. After a guided tour of the Parliament Building, the delegation attended a lunch meeting with the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Science, Education and Culture, Mr Aebischer Matthias, and other members of the Committee.
In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Deputy Director of the Swiss Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, Ms Christine Davatz-Höchner, to learn about the work of the Federation in the Swiss VET system.
The delegation will continue its visit in Switzerland today (September 25) and then depart for Hong Kong.
