SCED to attend 22nd APEC SME Ministerial Meeting in the Philippines

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will depart for the Philippines tomorrow (September 23) to attend the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Ministerial Meeting to be held in Iloilo City on September 25.

     The theme of the meeting is "Mainstreaming SMEs in the Global Economy", under which ministers will discuss three sub-themes, namely promoting inclusive growth through sustainable and resilient SMEs, advancing modernisation and standards and conformance of SMEs, and removing barriers to SME trade including entry to markets. Mr So will speak on government policies and measures facilitating SMEs' sustainable and resilient growth.

     Ahead of the meeting, Mr So will attend a seminar organised by Invest Hong Kong in Manila on September 24. Under the theme "Hong Kong: Where Business Goes to Grow", the seminar aims to introduce Hong Kong's business opportunities to Filipino companies.

     Mr So will return to Hong Kong in the evening on September 25. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr So's absence.
