Community Oral History Theatre Project to be launched in Sha Tin in October
************************************************************

     The "Community Oral History Theatre Project - Sha Tin District", co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Chung Ying Theatre Company, the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (NAAC) and the Hong Kong Society for the Aged (SAGE), will be launched in late October. A demonstration performance and sharing session will be held at 3pm on October 27 (Tuesday) at the Lee On Community Hall. Admission is free with a ticket.

     Since its launch in 2009, the Community Oral History Theatre Project has been implemented in districts such as Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong and Islands District (Tai O), and is now being run in Eastern District. A series of workshops offering drama training to elderly people in the district was arranged and their personal experience and recollections were compiled. Using the oral information thus collected, the project then provides an opportunity for the elderly themselves to act out their stories on stage.

     Elderly participants from Eastern District will take part in the demonstration performance in Sha Tin to show the local elders the results of their drama training over the past year. During the project, their experiences were collected and compiled into "North Point Anecdotes" (in Cantonese). The performers will tell stories of the Eastern District such as the "Choi Sai Woo" reservoir, the rainstorm in 1966 and the purchase of a flat in Kiu Kwan Mansion. The demonstration will offer the senior citizens of the Sha Tin District a taste of oral history theatre, encouraging their participation in this project as well as in other arts and cultural activities.

     Elderly residents of Sha Tin who are interested in participating in the Sha Tin project can complete and return the application forms after the demonstration performance. If enrolment exceeds the quota, interviews will be arranged to select the suitable candidates.

     Free tickets with free seating will be distributed from September 25 (Friday) onwards for a maximum of four tickets per person at the following locations on a first-come, first-served basis:
* Ma On Shan Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, NAAC (G/F, Lee On Community Services Complex, 23 Sha On Street, Ma On Shan);
