Person-in-charge of food premises given suspended jail sentence for criminally intimidating FEHD officer

     A person-in-charge of a food premises, charged with criminally intimidating a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officer, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment suspended for two years at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (September 18).

     The court heard that an FEHD Health Inspector was intimidated by the 61-year-old man while handling an environmental hygiene-related complaint at Pau Cheung Square in Yuen Long on March 5 this year.

     An FEHD spokesman reminded members of the public to co-operate with law enforcement officers. According to section 139 of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Chapter 132), any person who wilfully obstructs, resists or uses abusive language to any law enforcement officer in the execution of his duties shall be guilty of an offence and is liable to a maximum fine of $25,000 and six months' imprisonment.
