Hongkong Post announced today (September 15) that a stamp sheetlet entitled "The Court of Final Appeal" will be released with associated philatelic products for sale on September 30 (Wednesday).
The Court of Final Appeal is the highest appellate court in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It hears appeals on civil and criminal matters from the High Court (which includes the Court of Appeal and the Court of First Instance). In September 2015, the Court of Final Appeal was relocated from 1 Battery Path to 8 Jackson Road, the site of the former Supreme Court. Hongkong Post is issuing a stamp sheetlet to mark the occasion.
Based on an artist's impressions of the Court of Final Appeal's interior, the stamp sheetlet features a courtroom as the main visual element against a backdrop of the Registry and the library in the Court of Final Appeal on the left. The front left of the stamp sheetlet shows the Statue of Justice represented by the Greek goddess Themis on the building. The outline of the Court of Final Appeal building on the stamp echoes the logo of the Judiciary on the top right of the stamp sheetlet. The new Court of Final Appeal is a tangible and lasting symbol of Hong Kong's rule of law.
Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from tomorrow (September 16). The stamp sheetlet and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from September 16 to 22.
