Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home - Clean My Own School launch ceremony (with photos)
**********************************************************

The Sham Shui Po District Office (SSPDO) today (September 9) held the Clean My Own School launch ceremony to encourage students to take part in the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign and to develop good hygiene habits.

The Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Benjamin Mok; the Chairman of the Sham Shui Po District Council, Mr Jimmy Kwok, and representatives of partner schools of the Clean My Own School initiative officiated at the launch ceremony at Our Lady of the Rosary College.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Hui said all citizens should share responsibility for keeping the environment clean and that this sense of responsibility should be cultivated from a young age. She encouraged students to nurture a sense of keeping the school clean and help spread the message of keeping clean in the community.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests took part in school cleaning with students at Our Lady of the Rosary College and Shamshuipo Kaifong Welfare Association Primary School. They also participated in workshops to learn about food waste tie-dyeing and the making of Asiatic wormwood mosquito repellent.

A total of 23 secondary and primary schools in Sham Shui Po District have become partner schools of the Clean My Own School initiative (see Annex). These schools will not only disseminate the message of keeping the environment clean during lessons or morning assemblies, but will also organise a variety of events such as cleaning competitions and cleaning activities. School cleaning ambassadors and inspectors will also be appointed to convey the message of keeping clean.

Since early last month, the SSPDO has spared no effort in encouraging community participation in the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign through a series of activities including a bus parade and seminars on environmental hygiene. The SSPDO has also arranged contractors to clean the common areas of some "three nil" buildings with less satisfactory environmental hygiene conditions and distributed cleaning packs to residents in the district with a view to deepening their understanding of the campaign.
