************************************************************

The Central and Western District Office (C&WDO) today (September 4) distributed hygiene packs to the residents and shop operators along "Dried Seafood Street" on Des Voeux Road West to raise their awareness of observing good personal, household and environmental hygiene in the community.

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man; the District Officer (Central and Western), Miss Cheryl Chow; the Chairman of the Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun Area Committee, Mr Ha Chung-kin; and members of the Hong Kong Dried Seafood and Grocery Merchants Association distributed hygiene packs along Des Voeux Road West to enhance public awareness of maintaining a clean environment and observing good personal hygiene.

To support the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, the C&WDO, in co-operation with district councils, local organisations, building management bodies, schools and more, held a series of activities focusing on community cleanliness as well as publicity and education.

On the cleanliness front, one-off cleaning operations have been conducted in private rear lanes with hygiene problems, as well as in the common areas of "three nil" buildings without management bodies in order to improve environmental hygiene and encourage the residents to keep the environment clean.

As for the publicity and education aspect, promotional leaflets and various cleaning products were distributed to residents, members of owners' corporations and mutual aid committees, shop operators, foreign domestic helpers and students in the district to promote the importance of observing good personal, household and environmental hygiene.
