Government proposes allowing reconstruction of Sharp Island pier
************************************************************

The Government has proposed to allow the reconstruction of the Sharp Island pier situated at a cape west of Sharp Island at Sai Kung (near Kiu Tsui Beach). The project aims to increase the berthing depth and improve the berthing facilities there.

The proposed works involve about 1.12 hectares of foreshore and seabed and are scheduled to commence in August 2016 for completion in early 2018.

Any person who considers that he or she has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and seabed involved may submit a written objection to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong by November 4.

At present, water transport is the only means of travel to Sharp Island. The existing pier was constructed in the 1970s and its limited capacity results in larger boats having problems berthing there. The Sai Kung District Council proposed to reconstruct the pier through the Signature Project Scheme in order to meet the needs of the increasing number of tourists and the community.

The extent of the area affected is stated in a notice published today (September 4) in the Government Gazette (www.gld.gov.hk/egazette/pdf/20151936/egn201519366771.pdf).

The notice together with its related plan is posted on notice boards near the site. The plan can also be seen at the Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office, 23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong (where copies can be purchased on order); at the Sai Kung District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Ground Floor, Sai Kung Tseung Kwan O Government Complex, 38 Pui Shing Road, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories; and on the Lands Department's website (www.landsd.gov.hk).
