The following is issued on behalf of the Financial Services Development Council:

University students and young graduates gained a vivid picture of the wealth of opportunities in Hong Kong's financial services industry at a forum hosted by the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) today (August 23).

Entitled "Career in Financial Services - Vision and Opportunities", the forum is the third event under FSDC's Practitioner Speaker Series, which aims to promote understanding of career choices in the financial services industry. Around 150 people attended the forum today to explore with leading bankers and academics the career prospects in the financial sector.

Adjunct Lecturer of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the Master of Social Science in Global Political Economy Programme, Mr Wong Yuen-shan, was the moderator of today's forum. Other speakers were the Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive, the Bank of East Asia Limited, Mr Brian Li Man-bun; the Chief Country Officer, Hong Kong, Deutsche Bank, Mr Peter Lo Chi-wai, and the Regional Head, Human Resources Greater China and Hong Kong, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, Ms Nita Law.

The speakers had a lively and inspiring discussion on the development of the local financial industry. They also shared their views on opportunities and challenges for the future generation, providing students with insights on the nature and prospects of different jobs in the financial services industry. Through experience sharing with the industry practitioners, university students and young graduates were able to gain greater knowledge of this segment of the job market and were encouraged to consider developing a career in financial services.

The FSDC's Practitioner Speaker Series is a project developed between the FSDC and local universities, with speakers from the financial services industry giving talks to university students about important industry facts and the skill sets required in developing a career in financial services.

About the FSDC

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government established the FSDC in 2013 as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development.

The FSDC set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee, the Mainland Opportunities Committee, the New Business Committee, the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee, as the five streams of its work.
