Labour Department launches e-Learning Support Scheme (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Labour Department (LD) has launched the e-Learning Support Scheme, a training and employment project under the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP). The scheme aims to provide pre-employment and on-the-job training for young people who seek to pursue careers in the sectors of information technology, education and creative multimedia. It also facilitates the further development of electronic learning in secondary and primary schools in Hong Kong.

Officiating at the launch ceremony for the scheme today (August 22), the Commissioner for Labour, Mr Donald Tong, encouraged the trainees who would soon report for duty after pre-employment training to zealously provide teaching and technical support for the schools they serve, and at the same time to keep equipping themselves for a promising future. He added that the trainees would have abundant development opportunities in the sectors of information technology, education and creative multimedia, which are in need of young people with experience in information technology.

Young people who had completed the YETP attended the ceremony to share how they had developed themselves through the on-the-job training and employment support of the YETP. Some managed to proceed with tertiary education, while others found jobs successfully, exemplifying the YETP's slogan of "Achieve Your Dreams, Fly High". On the same occasion, school principals showed their support for the e-Learning Support Scheme, confirming that it is useful for young people in their career planning and for schools in identifying suitable teaching assistants.

The YETP has collaborated with the education sector for many years. More than 5 000 young people have been trained to enhance their work experience and competitiveness through projects such as IT Seeds and TA Online. These projects have been consolidated into the e-Learning Support Scheme this year, which targets the positions of e-Learning Support Associate and e-Learning Support Assistant. These positions are suitable for sub-degree holders and graduates of the Diploma of Secondary Education respectively. Upon completion of pre-employment training, the trainees would be engaged by the schools for 12 months' on-the-job training. The scheme has attracted more than 100 schools and about 100 young people to participate.

At the launch ceremony, Mr Tong awarded certificates of completion of pre-employment training to the trainees and presented certificates of appreciation to the participating schools. He also wished all of them a fulfilling academic year ahead.
