Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to perform works by Tchaikovsky with talented young musicians
************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present two concerts entitled "Lio and Zorman's Tchaikovsky" by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra in September. The concerts will feature two talented young musicians, guest conductor Lio Kuokman and violinist Itamar Zorman.

The programme will include Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D, Op. 35" and "Symphony No.5 in E Minor, Op. 64".

Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as "a startling conducting talent", guest conductor Lio Kuokman has worked extensively as conductor in both the symphonic and operatic genres. Lio has also been appointed as assistant conductor by the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra. Recent appearances have included concerts with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Virtuosi, the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra and the Macao Orchestra.

Throughout Asia and the United States, Lio's opera repertoire flourishes, having conducted productions of "Don Giovanni", "Le nozze di Figaro" and "Carmen", as well as performances of Musica Viva Hong Kong including "L'elisir d'amore", "La fille du régiment", "Lucia di Lammermoor", "Cavalleria Rusticana", "I Pagliacci" and "Rigoletto". A proponent of contemporary works, he has also premiered Chan Hing-yan's chamber opera, "Heart of Coral", commissioned and produced by the Hong Kong Arts Festival.

Violinist Itamar Zorman was the winner of the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition, in which he performed in the winners' concert with conductor Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra. Zorman was also awarded the 2013 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 2014 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.

Zorman has performed in summer engagements at the Marlboro Music Festival and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, as well as in the Verbier Festival, a nine-concert tour in Israel with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor David Robertson, a performance with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in Japan's Suntory Hall and concerts with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra "Novaya Rossiya", the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra.

The "Lio and Zorman's Tchaikovsky" concerts by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 8pm on September 18 (Friday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall and at 8pm on September 19 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall.
