The "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" - Yuen Long District Kick-off Ceremony was held today (August 18) by the Yuen Long District Office (YLDO) at the open space off the entrance/exit of Yuen Long Government Offices in Sau Fu Street. Public participation was encouraged to maintain environmental hygiene in the community and public areas.
Officiating guests included the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing; the Chairman of the Yuen Long District Council (YLDC), Mr Leung Che-cheung; the District Officer (Yuen Long), Mr Edward Mak; the District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Yuen Long) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Mr Cheung Pui-chung; the Vice Chairman of the YLDC, Mr Wong Wai-shun; the Chairman of the Environmental Improvement Committee of the YLDC, Mr Leung Fuk-yuen; and the Vice Chairman of the Environmental Improvement Committee of the YLDC, Mr Tang Kwai-yau.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Wong Kam-sing said the objectives of the territory-wide campaign include enhancing public awareness of keeping Hong Kong a clean and healthy place to live in, with an aim of preventing diseases that pose public health threats. The campaign also aims to instil in the community a sense of ownership of, and belonging to, Hong Kong. He appealed to each and every citizen who treats Hong Kong as home to take up the responsibility and spare no effort in fostering a hygienic environment.
After the ceremony, the officiating guests, together with members of the YLDC and area committees, distributed cleaning packs to members of the public along Castle Peak Road (Yuen Long Section) (or Yuen Long Main Road) and Sau Fu Street to remind them to maintain personal and environmental hygiene at all times.
The event was organised by the YLDO, supported by the YLDC and area committees.
