The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong-Taiwan Cultural Co-operation Committee:

"Hong Kong Week 2015@Taipei", an eagerly anticipated annual cultural exchange event involving Hong Kong and Taiwan, will be held in Taipei from September 10 to October 11. Being held for the fourth time and with a theme this year of "Arts through Time", Hong Kong Week will feature a wide and exciting range of programmes and extension activities to showcase the creation and passing on of legacies in different artistic fields in Hong Kong, and the responses of artists to their present living and social environments.

"The Hong Kong Week presented by the Hong Kong-Taiwan Cultural Co-operation Committee (HKTCCC) has become a major annual cultural event between Hong Kong and Taiwan in just a few years. Last year, the event attracted 120 000 visitors and the result was encouraging," the convenor of the HKTCCC, Mr Fredric Mao, said at a press briefing today (August 11).

Mr Mao said that under the theme of "Arts through Time", three performing arts programmes will be presented in two major arts universities in Taiwan. The academic ambience will echo perfectly with the performances and together they will remind audiences of the importance of arts and cultural legacies. Contemporary artists, on the other hand, draw from their personal experience and create artistic works that stem from real life. He said he believes that the array of programmes to be presented for Hong Kong Week will certainly reflect artists' attitudes toward arts and life.

The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, said in the press briefing that the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is pleased to co-operate with the HKTCCC once again in this platform to enhance understanding and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

This year's opening programme, "In the Name of Art - Hong Kong Contemporary Art Exhibition" co-organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, will feature the works of contemporary artists in Hong Kong. Drawn from the artists' personal experience, the works pose thought-provoking questions and reflect on today's society and ways of life, and open up dialogues between art and life and between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Three iconic figures in Hong Kong's performing arts scene - Chung King-fai, Willy Tsao and Law Wing-fai - who strive for excellence in their respective art forms, will take part in three exciting performing arts programmes, namely "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Chung Ying Theatre Company, "As If To Nothing" by City Contemporary Dance Company and "When Petals Fall in Serenity - Atmospheric Music Theatre" by Law Wing-fai. In connection with this year's theme, Mr Mao, also an iconic figure in theatre, will join Law and Tsao to engage in dialogues with arts practitioners in Taiwan at a forum on performing arts development and talent training.

In addition, Create Hong Kong has organised two exhibitions, including "Exhibition of Hong Kong Author of the Year", which illustrates the literary artistry, writing journey and world views of selected Hong Kong authors through text, visual images and multimedia interactive presentations. The other exhibition, entitled "Past. Present. Future. - Tracking Hong Kong Architecture", will showcase winning projects of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards in the past 50 years, the 10 most liked Hong Kong architecture of the century selected by the public and projects of young Hong Kong architects as both a retrospective and to herald future directions for Hong Kong's architecture and urban planning.

A wide range of extension actives such as workshops and talks will also take place in Taipei, allowing the people of Taiwan to fully experience the unique charm of Hong Kong's arts and culture.
