Literary seminars for 13th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature to be held at Hong Kong Central Library

     The Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold five literary seminars for the 13th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature at the Lecture Theatre of Hong Kong Central Library during August and September. This year's adjudicators will conduct literary exchanges, themed on poetry, essays, literary criticism, children's and youth literature, and fiction, with seminar participants to promote the appreciation and creation of various types of literary work.

     The poetry seminar conducted by Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Chung Kwok-keung, Professor Chung Ling, Dr Wong Leung-wo and Wu Yin-ching will be held on August 20 (Thursday) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

     The essay seminar conducted by Professor Chan Che-shing, Dr Chan Tak-kam, Chang Show-foong, Dr Louie Kin-sheun and Wong Yan-kwai will be held on August 26 (Wednesday) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

     The literary criticism seminar conducted by Professor Cheng Ming-lee, Fung Wai-choi, Professor Huang Ziping, Professor Tam Kwok-kan and Professor Xu Zidong will be held on August 27 (Thursday) from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

     The children's and youth literature seminar conducted by Chan Hung, Chor Wai, Dr Ip Sui-lin, Poon Ming-chu and Qin Wenjun will be held on August 30 (Sunday) from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

     The fiction seminar conducted by Professor Hoyan Hang-fung, Shih Shu-ching, Shum Kwan-nam, Tu Nai-hsien and Dr Wong Chung-ming will be held on September 5 (Saturday) from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

     Seminars will be conducted in Cantonese and Putonghua with free admission on a first come, first served basis.

     The 13th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature has received 164 nominations, which include works by veteran writers as well as young and budding authors. The results will be announced in November after selection and discussion by adjudication panels consisting of local scholars and scholars outside Hong Kong, authors and experts in literary criticism. The prize presentation ceremony will also be held in November.

     The Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature has been held since 1991. It aims to recognise the excellence of Hong Kong literary writers, encourage local publishers to publish quality Chinese literary books and promote the appreciation of Chinese literature.
