Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine at airport (with photos)

     Hong Kong Customs detected two drug trafficking cases at the airport in the past two days and seized about 3.65 kilograms of suspected cocaine with a total value of about $4.6 million. Four women were arrested.

     A  woman arrived at Hong Kong from Bogota, Colombia, via Paris, France yesterday (August 8). During Customs clearance, Customs officers found her gait unnatural. Upon further checking, about 1.65 kilograms of suspected cocaine valued at $2.1 million were found concealed inside a tailor-made underwear she was wearing. The woman was arrested at the scene. Upon follow-up investigation, two other women were arrested in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday.

     In addition, Customs officers arrested an incoming female passenger at Hong Kong International Airport today (August 9) and seized about two kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $2.5 million.

     The woman arrived at Hong Kong from São Paulo, Brazil via Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. During Customs clearance, suspected cocaine were found being wrapped around her calves.

     The four arrested persons, aged between 29 and 44, declared as a chef, a public relations agent and businesswomen respectively. They will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
