The Eastern District Office (EDO) today (August 9) held "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" - Eastern District Clean Hong Kong Campaign cum Bus Parade to promote the message of clean Hong Kong and remind members of the public to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene.

Officiating guests at the ceremony included the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung; the District Officer (Eastern), Ms Anne Teng; the Chairman of the Eastern District Council (EDC), Mr Wong Kin-pan; the Vice Chairman of the EDC, Mr Kung Pak-cheung; the Acting District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Eastern) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), Miss May Leung; and the chairmen and vice-chairmen of committees under the EDC.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Cheung said all citizens should attach importance to personal and environmental hygiene. He called for concerted efforts to support the campaign and build a cleaner and fresher city.

Ms Teng said that to encourage more residents to take part in the clean-up campaign, the EDO will organise a health talk on environmental hygiene this month. The EDO will also arrange for contractors to clean the common areas of some "three-nil" buildings in the district in a bid to improve the environmental hygiene of these buildings and promote good building management among owners and tenants.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests and the EDC members proceeded to distribute cleaning packs outside Siu Sai Wan Market before boarding a parade bus. Setting off from Siu Sai Wan Estate, the parade bus visited various locations in the district, including Shau Kei Wan, Aldrich Bay, North Point and Victoria Park. Cleaning packs were distributed to residents and foreign domestic helpers to urge them to observe good hygiene practices.

The event was organised by the EDO, co-organised by the FEHD and supported by the EDC.
