HAB launches website to commemorate 70th anniversary of victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression
**********************************************************

The Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) today (August 7) officially launched a website to commemorate the 70th anniversary of victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression. A variety of commemorative events are listed in the website to facilitate public participation in remembrance of history.

The website's Events Calendar shows, by month, a series of events being held by government departments, district bodies, community organisations and various sectors of the community in the second half of this year. They include an official commemorative ceremony, a commemorative stamp issue, exhibitions of relics and pictures, guided tours of war heritage sites, seminars, lectures and educational workshops, film shows, book displays and cultural shows.

A spokesman for the HAB said, "Through these events, we hope that members of the public, especially the younger generation, will understand more about the history of the war and commemorate those who gave their lives for the motherland. We should always remember the Chinese people's huge sacrifice in the war of resistance against Japan and also spread a peace-loving message."

Among the events is an official ceremony to be held at the City Hall Memorial Garden on September 3 to commemorate the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression. Hongkong Post will also issue a commemorative stamp sheetlet with the theme of "The 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression" to mark this important event.

Through exhibition panels, historical photographs, artefacts and documentaries, the exhibitions of relics and images organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and various community organisations can help explain to members of the public the history of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the support provided by the people of Hong Kong to the Mainland of China in the fight.

The dedicated website also provides an overview of the Mukden Incident of September 18, 1931, and the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong from 1941 until Japan's unconditional surrender in 1945 to let the public learn more about the history of the victory, and better appreciate the hard-earned opportunity for rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Members of the public are welcome to browse the website on the 70th anniversary of victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression at www.victory70.gov.hk.
