Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal work on Connaught Road Central in Central from next Monday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (August 6) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate tram track renewal work will be implemented in Central from 10am next Monday (August 10) to 10am on August 17.

     The temporary traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Temporary traffic arrangements
------------------------------

* The service road of Connaught Road West eastbound between Des Voeux Road West and Morrison Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except trams;

* The service road of Connaught Road Central eastbound between Morrison Street and Cleverly Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except trams;

* All vehicles will be prohibited from making a right turn from Des Voeux Road West eastbound onto the service road of Connaught Road West eastbound;

* All vehicles will be prohibited from making a right turn from Morrison Street northbound onto the service road of Connaught Road Central eastbound;

* Vehicles on Des Voeux Road West eastbound heading for Des Voeux Road Central eastbound will be temporarily diverted via Connaught Road West eastbound and Rumsey Street southbound; and

* Vehicles on Morrison Street northbound heading for Des Voeux Road Central eastbound will be diverted via Connaught Road West westbound, Des Voeux Road West westbound, Wing Lok Street eastbound and Morrison Street northbound.

Temporary transport arrangements

* Citybus (CTB) Routes No. 1, 5B and 10 will be diverted via Connaught Road Central eastbound and Rumsey Street southbound before resuming the original routeing;

* The bus stops of CTB Routes No. 1 and 5B on Des Voeux Road Central eastbound outside Wing On Centre will be relocated eastward by about 160 metres; and

* The bus stop of CTB Routes No. 10 on Des Voeux Road Central eastbound near Hillier Street will be relocated eastward by about 200 metres.

     The bus company concerned will put up notices to inform passengers of the above temporary arrangements.

     Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will also be erected on-site to guide motorists. Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
