The Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO) and the Taoyuan City Government will jointly hold the Hong Kong-Taoyuan Inter-city Forum 2015 in Taoyuan on August 6 (Thursday) to further enhance exchanges and co-operation between the two places. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, and the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, will attend the forum.
The forum will focus on how new business opportunities for various industries can be created by taking advantage of airport and city development. Senior government officials and experts of the relevant industries of the two places will speak at the forum on airport and city development, and the latest trends in the convention and exhibition industry as well as the logistics industry.
A spokesman for the HKETCO said today (August 4) that the forum will explore new opportunities in the two aforesaid industries brought about by airport development at Hong Kong and Taiwan. It will also explore how the two places could co-operate and complement each other to enhance competitiveness and create more trade opportunities.
The HKETCO successfully co-organised inter-city forums with the Taipei City Government and the Taichung City Government in the past two years. The forum moves to Taoyuan this year, with the Mayor of Taoyuan City, Mr Cheng Wen-tsan, delivering the opening remarks.
Professor Cheung will give a keynote speech on the importance of Hong Kong's aviation hub in driving economic development and enhancing global connectivity.
In addition, Mr Tam and the Deputy Mayor of Taoyuan City, Mr Wang Ming-teh, will speak at the close of the forum.
Other Hong Kong speakers will include the Director of International & Mainland Relations of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Mr William Chui, and the Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Pacific Services Limited, Mr Kelvin Ko. Taiwan speakers will include the Director of the Economic Development Department of the Taoyuan City Government, Mr Chang Chang-tsair; the Chairman of the Taiwan Convention and Exhibition Association and President of GIS Group, Mr Jason Yeh; and the Chairman of the Taiwan Association of Logistics Management, Mr Teddy Chen.
The HKETCO Director, Mr John Leung, and the General Manager of Elite Professional Conference Organizer, Mr James Wu, will join other speakers in a panel discussion.
