Wan Chai District launches Clean Hong Kong Campaign (with photos)
**********************************************************

The Wan Chai District Office (WCDO), the Food and Environmental Hygiene Committee (FEHC) of the Wan Chai District Council (WCDC) and Younger Look have launched the Wan Chai District Clean Hong Kong Campaign to raise awareness on public hygiene. The ceremony was held today (August 2) under the Canal Road West flyover.

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man; the District Officer (Wan Chai), Miss Angela Luk; the Chairman of WCDC, Mr Suen Kai-cheong; the District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Wan Chai) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), Mr Chan Chung-chi; and the Chairman of FEHC of WCDC, Ms Jacqueline Chung, officiated at the ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Ko said the Wan Chai District Clean Hong Kong Campaign is among the first series of activities under "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong Our Home". The Chief Executive has decided to launch the Keep Clean 2015 campaign mainly in response to the increasing aspirations of the public for better urban amenities and public health. Hong Kong belongs to all citizens. In order to keep Hong Kong clean and tidy, sole reliance on the efforts of government departments is not sufficient. Mutual co-operation among all sectors of the community and active participation of all Hong Kong people are also needed.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests and WCDC members proceeded to a nearby alley to carry out cleaning and distributed cleaning packs to the public under the Canal Road West flyover.

WCDC members then joined a bus parade to distribute cleaning packs at various locations in the district to remind the public of the importance of personal hygiene and household cleanliness.

To continue to promote cleanliness, the WCDO will, from mid-August to mid-October, distribute cleaning packs to owners' corporations, mutual aid committees, owners' committees and "three-nil" buildings and appeal to them to strengthen the cleaning of the common areas of their buildings. Meanwhile, the FEHD will reinforce the cleaning of hygiene black spots in the district in order to enhance the environmental hygiene of the community.
