SED to officiate at opening ceremony of student summer camp in Beijing (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will leave Hong Kong for Beijing today (July 17) and will officiate at the opening ceremony of the Beijing, Hong Kong and Macau Student Exchange Summer Camp 2015 tomorrow.

     This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Beijing, Hong Kong and Macau Student Exchange Summer Camp. Participating in the Camp will be a total of 570 secondary students from the three places including 200 Secondary Five students from 92 Hong Kong secondary schools and 20 teachers. The eight-day programme includes exchange activities with students of Beijing universities, thematic talks as well as visits to historic monuments, cultural heritage sites and modern architecture in Beijing.

     In addition to officiating at the opening ceremony of the Camp tomorrow, Mr Ng will also meet with some Hong Kong students in Beijing to learn more about their studies and daily life on the Mainland.

     Upon his arrival in Beijing today, Mr Ng will call on officials of the Ministry of Education to exchange views on education, including introducing the recently released Report of the Committee on Free Kindergarten Education, the Progress Report of the Committee on Professional Development of Teachers and Principals, and the Report of the Task Force on Promotion of Vocational Education. Mr Ng will also visit Zhongguancun Science Park to learn about the latest technology and innovation achievements there.

     Accompanying the SED to visit Beijing will be the Deputy Secretaries for Education, Mr Brian Lo and Dr Catherine KK Chan, and the Administrative Assistant to the SED, Mr Rick Chan. They will return to Hong Kong tomorrow night.

     During Mr Ng's absence from Hong Kong, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
