EDB provides textbook supply information for new school year
************************************************************

To assist parents in purchasing printed textbooks for the new school year, the Education Bureau (EDB) has provided on its "Textbook Information" website (www.edb.gov.hk/textbook) a search function on "Textbook Supply Information for New School Year". Parents can visit the website between July and September to obtain information provided by publishers on the supply of textbooks on the Recommended Textbook List.

The website information will be updated on a weekly basis. If parents have difficulty in purchasing printed textbooks, they can contact the publishers listed on the website directly.

The EDB is also operating the Textbook Information Hotlines on 3698 3578, 3698 3947 and 3698 4025 from 9am to 6pm during weekdays (except public holidays) from now till September 30 to answer questions related to the purchase of printed textbooks. Parents can also email enquiries to the EDB at textbook@edb.gov.hk. All enquiries will be replied to within two working days.

Moreover, parents may find the following useful when purchasing printed textbooks for their children:

1. Generally, bookstores have more stock in July. Some bookstores may provide a reservation service if individual textbooks are out of stock (full payment in advance may be required). Publishers will consider the demand when reprinting textbooks to meet the needs of parents.

2. Attention should be paid to the information provided on school textbook lists including titles, editions, name of publishers, and whether previous editions can still be used. Parents should check carefully the above information when purchasing second-hand textbooks.

3. Some reference books, such as dictionaries and atlases, need not be purchased every year.
