*****************************************************

The Youth Square held a celebration party in the Y Studio today (July 15) to celebrate its fifth anniversary and launch a series of celebratory programmes. The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, officiated at the celebration.

Speaking at the celebration, Mr Tsang said that the Government built the Youth Square to serve as a base for youth-oriented activities. He noted that Youth Square has grown and improved in the past five years and that various youth organisations have set up offices there. These organisations have helped create a synergy effect and achieved the aims of developing Youth Square as a focal point for comprehensive youth activities and as a platform for major youth programmes, he said.

He added that youth development is an important initiative of the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB). With an aim of achieving multi-faceted excellence, the HAB will continue to increase resources to allow young people to better understand their own potential and ability to develop.

The Youth Square, which came into full operation in 2010, is a youth development project of the HAB. It is committed to promoting youth development by offering a diversified range of venues and facilities for youth organisations.

Youth Square has diversified facilities including the Y Theatre, Y Studio, multi-function areas and the Y Loft, which has 148 guest rooms. In the past five years, the Youth Square has held over 5 000 youth events with over 1 million participants. Its hostel, Y Loft, has provided accomodation for over 50 000 youths from overseas attending exchange programmes in Hong Kong.

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the Youth Square has developed a comprehensive new thematic promotion campaign, with "Fei Ching" (Passionate Youth) as its main concept. A series of youth programmes under the theme "Fei Ching Ying Dee" (Passionate Youth, Cool Place) will be held including international volunteer services, cultural and artistic exchanges and environmental tours.

Details of the fifth anniversary celebration and "Fei Ching Ying Dee" programmes can be found at the Youth Square dedicated website at www.youthsquare.hk and the social media platform of Youth Square (Facebook and Instagram).
