Youth Exchange Session discusses environmental issues (with photo)
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Commission on Youth:

The Commission on Youth (CoY) held a Youth Exchange Session at the Youth Square today (July 13). The Under Secretary for the Environment, Ms Christine Loh, attended the session and exchanged views with youths on environmental issues.

Ms Loh said environmental protection, no matter if it is waste reduction at source or energy saving, needs community participation. Young people are the most active group in society and the future social pillars, and therefore their recognition and initiatives on environmental protection would help cultivate a positive atmosphere in the community.

In her closing remarks, Ms Loh said that the birth of Big Waster, the opening of the Big Waster Facebook account and the development of the "Waste Less" and "Air Quality Health Index" mobile applications are meant to communicate with the youth through various channels, and aim for a wide-ranging exchange of views in the future.

The spokesman of the CoY said the Commission will continue to organise exchange sessions and invite representatives from the Government and advisory bodies or stakeholders on topics of concern to attend so that youths will have more opportunities to exchange views with them.
