Yuen Siu-fai to join young Cantonese opera actors in showcasing different role types

     Veteran Cantonese opera actor Yuen Siu-fai will collaborate with a group of young performers to perform four works in September with the aim of showcasing Cantonese opera's unique qualities and different role types.

     Featuring role types such as "xusheng" (bearded male), "laodan" (old woman) and "hualian" (painted face), which are not usually cast as leads, the performances will give young actors a better understanding and appreciation of these role types' special characteristics and offer an insight into the art of Cantonese opera. The performances will be staged at 7.30pm at the Auditorium of the Ko Shan Theatre New Wing. Details are as follows:

"The Impeachment of Yan Song"
September 6 (Sunday)
Cast: Yuen Siu-fai, Miu Dan-ching, Juliana Kwan, Wang Kit-ching, Leung Wai-hong, Jim Ho-fung, Kwok Chun-sing and Lo Lai-see

"The Dowager Leads Her Army to War"
September 7 (Monday)
Cast: Yuen Siu-fai, Miu Dan-ching, Juliana Kwan, Wang Kit-ching, Leung Wai-hong, Liu Kwok-sum, Jim Ho-fung, Kwok Chun-sing and Yuen Huk-wai

"The Four Scholars"

     "A Showcase of Role Types in Cantonese Opera" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $100, $160 and $220 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first come, first served basis).

     A pre-performance talk (to be conducted in Cantonese) will be held at 7.30pm on September 1 (Tuesday) at AC2, Level 4, Administration Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Speakers will include Yuen Siu-fai, Miu Dan-ching, Juliana Kwan and Wang Kit-ching. Admission is free with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
