LegCo to resume Second Reading debate on Special Holiday (3 September 2015) Bill

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) will hold a meeting on Wednesday (July 8) at 11am in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. During the meeting, Members will resume the Second Reading debate on the Special Holiday (3 September 2015) Bill. If the Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, it will then go through the Committee stage and be read the Third time.

     Members will also resume the Second Reading debate on the Inland Revenue (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2015, the Arbitration (Amendment) Bill 2015, the Insurance Companies (Amendment) Bill 2014, the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill 2015, the Electoral Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2015 and the Electronic Health Record Sharing System Bill. If the Bills are supported by Members and receive their Second Reading, they will then go through the Committee stage and be read the Third time.

     Moreover, the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries (Amendment) Bill 2015, the Supplementary Appropriation (2014-2015) Bill, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal Bill and the Promotion of Recycling and Proper Disposal (Product Container) (Amendment) Bill 2015 will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings. Second Reading debate on the bills will be adjourned.

     On Members' motions, Mr Sin Chung-kai will move a motion on not forgetting the June 4 incident. The motion states: "That this Council urges that: the June 4 incident be not forgotten and the 1989 pro-democracy movement be vindicated."

     Ms Emily Lau will move a motion on the Report on the Visit of the Delegation of the Legislative Council to Germany. The motion states: "That this Council notes the Report on the Visit of the Delegation of the Legislative Council to Germany from March 1 to 6, 2015."

     On other motions, the Secretary for Home Affairs will move a proposed resolution under the Legal Aid Ordinance to amend section 5 and 5A to the Ordinance.

     The Secretary for the Environment will also move a proposed resolution under the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to amend the Road Traffic Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 10) Order 2015 laid on the table of the Council on May 20, 2015.

     During the meeting, the Chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr Tommy Cheung; the Chairman of the Panel on Education, Dr Lam Tai-fai; the Chairman of the Panel on Housing, Ms Alice Mak; the Chairman of the Panel on Manpower, Mr Wong Kwok-kin; the Chairman of the Panel on Development, Mr Tony Tse; the Chairman of the Panel on Constitutional Affairs, Mr Tam Yiu-chung; the Chairman of the Panel on Economic Development, Mr Jeffrey Lam; the Chairman of the Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Tommy Cheung; the Chairman of the Panel on Health Services, Professor Joseph Lee; and the Chairman of the Panel on Transport, Mr Michael Tien, will present the 2014-2015 Reports of the related Committees and address the Council respectively.

     Members will also ask the Administration 22 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies at the meeting.
