SCED speaks on tourism (with photo)
***********************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, to the media on tourism after attending the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival today (July 5):

Reporter: Has the one week one entry (one trip per week) policy been affected so far?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I repeat what I just said in Chinese. It is too premature to see the full implementation impact of the new measure. Right now, I can see that, for the month of May, (the year-on-year) decrease in the number of tourists coming under the Individual Visit Scheme is about five per cent. In the month of June, from June 1 to 28, the decrease in the number of visitors under the Individual Visit Scheme is about 10 per cent. So we already see some impact. But it's too premature to see what the overall impact would be because this measure has only been implemented for about three months. We need a full year in order to see the full impact of the new measure.
